Listening to the Soul's Voices
Influenced in her youth by two hispano neighbors who were more aunt and uncle than vecinos, Ruth discovered magical realism through their lives and stories. Writing in this style is where she finds her clearest voice which allows her to explore what makes people magical, unpredictable, and terrifying. As the listener of stories, including her own, from angry rants to joyful rhapsodies to quiet homilies on grief Ruth endeavors to honor, through writing, the human story. Read about her first novel Windborne.
Before she began writing fiction, Ruth’s words appeared in various publications and federal laws/regulations related to the field of aging (see publication list below). Ruth studied at the Writers Workshop in Asheville, North Carolina, starting in 1994. She attended several other writing courses offered throughout the Asheville area from1994 – 2007. She edited her late husband and author Charles F. Price’s nine novels and one non-fiction work. She is a co-founder of the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival. In 2020 she retired to start writing full-time and returned to her native home in Salida, Colorado, where there are enough characters to occupy her imagination for a lifetime, starting with her own family.
